Coronavirus Update

Dear Members of Rock of Ages,

Greetings in the name of our Savior Jesus, who is always ruler over all things, no matter the circumstances.

It is with heavy heart that I announce to all of you the decision of myself and the ROA Church Council to cancel all face-to-face church activity effective immediately (Wednesday, March 18, 2020). The more we as a society learn about the coronavirus, the more clear it has become that the best measure we can take is to simply, truly distance ourselves from one another. We did not reach this conclusion lightly; as the mission of the church remains to spread the gospel, the last thing we would want to do is cancel worship. But, given the recommendations of the government and health experts, we believe it is in the church’s best interest, especially for those most vulnerable to this sickness, to cancel.

Our hope and prayer is that we can reconvene for Holy Week worship beginning on April 5. This is, however, entirely dependent on what develops over the next two weeks. In the meantime, we will be streaming a “simulated” church service at 11 a.m. Sunday Mornings on Facebook Live. While not ideal, this will be a way we can stay in God’s Word despite an uncertain situation. I also highly encourage this time of social distancing to be one of deeper personal and family devotion to that same Word.

Please circulate this letter to Rock of Ages friends, family, and those who may not normally see it.  For more information on this cancelation, see the Rock of Ages website and Pastor’s blog.

In the name of God our refuge,

Pastor Natsis

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,

    an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam

    and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

    the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall;

    God will help her at break of day.

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;

    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;

    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,

    the desolations he has brought on the earth.

He makes wars cease

    to the ends of the earth.

He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

    he burns the shields[d] with fire.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

    I will be exalted among the nations,

    I will be exalted in the earth.”

The Lord Almighty is with us;

    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
